Verse 201

punaś ca śārikā-vākyair utthāya tau sva-talpataḥ
gacchataḥ sva-sva-bhavanaṃ bhīty-utkaṇṭhākulau mithaḥ

punaḥ—again; ca—and; śārikā-vākyaiḥ—with the words of the female parrots; utthāya—rising; tau—They; sva-talpataḥ—from the bed; gacchataḥ—went; sva-sva-bhavanam—to Their own homes; bhīty- utkaṇṭhākulau—anxious; mithaḥ—together.

When the female parrots spoke, the divine couple rose from Their bed. Very anxious, They returned to Their homes.

Verse 202

prātaḥ-sevā prātaś ca bodhito mātrā talpād utthāya sa-tvaram
kṛtvā kṛṣṇo danta-kaṣṭhaṃ baladeva-samanvitam

prātaḥ-sevā—in the early morning; prātaḥ—the morning; ca—and; bodhitaḥ—awakened; mātrā—by His mother; talpāt—from the bed; utthāya—rising; sa-tvaram—quickly; kṛtvā—doing; kṛṣṇaḥ—Lord Kṛṣṇa; danta-kaṣṭham—a toothbrush-twig; baladeva- samanvitam—with Balarāma.

Pastimes in the Early Morning Wakened by His mother in the early morning, Lord Kṛṣṇa rose from bed. Then He and Balarāma brushed Their teeth.

Verse 203

mātrānumodito yāti go-śālaṃ dohanotsukaḥ
rādhāpi bodhitā vṛddha- vayasyābhiḥ sva-talpataḥ

mātrā—by His mother; anumoditaḥ—given permission; yāti—goes; go-śālam—to the cow-barn; dohana—milking; utsukaḥ—eager; rādhā—Śrī Rādhā; api—also; bodhitā—awakened; vṛddha-vayasyābhiḥ—by the older gopīs; sva-talpataḥ—from Her bed.

With His mother's permission, Lord Kṛṣṇa eagerly went to the barn to milk the cows. Then Śrī Rādhā, wakened by the elder gopīs, also rose from Her bed.

Verse 204

utthāya danta-kaṣṭhādi kṛtvābhyaṅgaṃ samācaret
snāna-vedīṃ tato gatvā snāpitā lalitādibhiḥ

utthāya—rising; danta-kaṣṭha—toothbrush-twig; ādi—beginning with; kṛtvā—doing; abhyaṅgam—anointing ewith fragrant oils; samācaret—did; snāna-vedīm—the bathing-room; tataḥ—then; gatvā—going; snāpitā—bathed; lalitā—by Lalitā; ādibhiḥ—headed.

Śrī Rādhā rose, brushed Her teeth, anointed Herself with fragrant oils, and then went to the bathing-room, where Lalitā and the other gopīs bathed Her.

Verse 205

bhūṣā-gṛhaṃ vrajet tatra vayasyā bhūṣayanty api
bhūṣaṇair vividhair divyair gandha-mālyānulepanaiḥ

bhūṣā-gṛham—to the decorating room; vrajet—went; tatra—there; vayasyā—gopī friends; bhūṣayanti—decorate; api—also; bhūṣaṇaiḥ—with ornaments; vividhaiḥ—various; divyaiḥ—glittering; gandha-mālyānulepanaiḥ—with scents, garlands, and ointments.

Then She went to the decorating-room, where Her friends decorated Her with garlands, scents, oils, and many glittering ornaments.

Verse 206

tataś ca sva-janais tasyāḥ śvaśruṃ samprārthya yatnataḥ
paktum āhūyate tūrṇaṃ sa-sakhī sā yaśodayā

tataḥ—then; ca—and; sva-janaiḥ—by Her people; tasyāḥ—of Her; śvaśrum—mother-in-law; samprārthya—requesting; yatnataḥ—carefully; paktum—to cook; āhūyate—was called; tūrṇam—quickly; sa- sakhī—with friends; sā—she; yaśodayā—by Yaśodā.

Then, after first speaking to Rādhā's mother-in-law, Yaśodā called Rādhā and Her friends to cook breakfast for Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Verse 207

śrī-nārada uvāca katham āhūyate devi pākārthaṃ sā yaśodayā
satīṣu pāka-kartrīṣu rohiṇī-pramukhāsv api

śrī-nārada uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; katham—why?; āhūyate—was called; devi—O goddess; pākārtham—for the purpose of cooking; sā—She; yaśodayā—by Yaśodā; satīṣu—saintly women; pāka- kartrīṣu—expert in cooking; rohiṇī-pramukhāsv—headed by Rohiṇī; api—even.

Śrī Nārada said: O goddess, why did Yaśodā call Śrī Rādhā to cook when Rohiṇī and so many other expert cooks were present in her home?

Verse 208

śrī-vṛndovāca durvāsasā svayaṃ datto varas tasyai maharṣiṇā
iti kātyāyanī-vaktrāc chrutam āsīn mayā purā

śrī-vṛndā uvāca—Śrī Vṛndā said; durvāsasā—by Durvāsā Muni; svayam—personally; dattaḥ—given; varaḥ—boon; tasyai—to Her; maharṣiṇā—by the great sage; iti—thus; kātyāyanī- vaktrāt—from the mouht of Katyayani; śrutam—heard; āsīt—was; mayā—by me; purā—before.

Śrī Vṛndā said: The great sage Durvāsā gave Rādhā a boon that She would be the best of cooks. This I heard from the mouth of Kātyāyanī.

Verse 209

tvayā yat pacyate devi tad-annaṃ mad-anugrahāt
miṣṭaṃ svādv-āmṛta-spardhi bhoktur āyuṣ-karaṃ tathā

tvayā—by You; yat—what; pacyate—is cooked; devi—O goddess; tad- annam—that food; mad-anugrahāt—by my mercy; miṣṭam—delicious; svādu-āmṛta-spardhi—defeating nectar; bhoktuḥ—of the eater; āyuṣ-karam—increasing the life; tathā—so.

Durvāsā said to Rādhā, "O goddess, by my mercy whatever You cook will be more delicious than nectar. It will increase the life of whoever eats it."

Verse 210

ity āhvāyati tāṃ nityaṃ yaśodā putra-vatsalā
āyuṣmān me bhavet putraḥ svādu-lobhāt tathā satī

iti—thus; āhvāyati—calls; tām—Her; nityam—daily; yaśodā—Yaśodā; putra-vatsalā—affectionate to her son; āyuṣmān—living a long life; me—my; bhavet—may be; putraḥ—son; svādu-lobhāt—eager to eat what is delicious; tathā—so; satī—the saintly woman.

That is why every day Yaśodā calls Rādhā to cook. Yaśodā thinks, "Eager to eat this delicious food, my son will live a very long life."

Verse 211

śvaśruś cānumoditā sāpi hṛṣṭānandālayaṃ vrajet
sa-sakhī-prakarā tatra gatvā pākaṃ karoti ca

śvaśruḥ—of the mother-in-law; ca—and; anumoditā—attaining the permission; sā—she; api—also; hṛṣṭānandālayam—to the abode of happiness; vrajet—goes; sa-sakhī—with friends; prakarā—important; tatra—there; gatvā—going; pākam—cooking; karoti—does; ca—and.

Receiving permission from Her mother-in-law, Rādhā becomes very happy. Accompanied by a host of friends, She goes to Kṛṣṇa's home to cook.

Verse 212

kṛṣṇo 'pi dugdhvā gāḥ kāścid dohayitvā janaiḥ paraḥ
āgacchati pitur vākyāt sva-gṛhaṃ sakhibhir vṛtaḥ

kṛṣṇaḥ—Lord Kṛṣṇa; api—also; dugdhvā—milking; gāḥ—the cows; kāścit—some; dohayitvā—causing to be milked; janaiḥ—by people; paraḥ—others; āgacchati—returns; pituḥ—of His father; vākyāt—by the words; sva-gṛham—to His own home; sakhibhiḥ—by friends; vṛtaḥ—accompanied.

Meanwhile, Lord Kṛṣṇa milked some cows and had the other boys milk the others. Then, called by His father, He and His friends returned home.

Verse 213

abhaṅga-mardanaṃ kṛtvā dāsaiḥ saṃsnāpito mudā
dhauta-vastra-dharaḥ sragvī candanākta-kalevaraḥ

abhaṅga-mardanam—massage; kṛtvā—doing; dāsaiḥ—by servants; saṃsnāpitaḥ—bathed; mudā—happily; dhauta-vastra-dharaḥ—wearing clean garments; sragvī—garlanded; candanākta-kalevaraḥ—anointed with sandal paste.

Then the servants happily massaged Lord Kṛṣṇa, bathed Him, dressed Him in clean garments, garlanded Him, and anointed His body with sandal paste.

Verse 214

dvi-phāla-baddha-keśaś ca grīva-bhālopari sphuran
candrākāra-spurad-bhāla- tilakālaka-rañjitaḥ

dvi-phāla-baddha-keśaḥ—bound hair; ca—and; grīva—neck; bhāla—and forehead; upari—above; sphuran—manifested; candrākāra—like the moon; spurat—manifested; bhāla—forehead; tilaka—tilaka; ālaka—curly locks of hair; rañjitaḥ—splendid.

Then the servants gathered Lord Kṛṣṇa's hair from His forehead to His neck and tied it in a topknot. They made the moon of the His forehead splendid with tilaka and curling locks of hair.

Verse 215

kaṅkanāṅgada-keyūra- ratna-mudrā-lasat-karaḥ
muktā-hāra-sphurad-vakṣā makarākṛti-kuṇḍalaḥ

kaṅkanāṅgada-keyūra—with bracelets and armlets; ratna- mudrā—with jewel rings; lasat—splendid; karaḥ—hands; muktā- hāra—necklace of pearls; sphurat—splendid; vakṣāḥ—chest; makarākṛti-kuṇḍalaḥ—with shark-shaped earrings.

They decorated Lord Kṛṣṇa with armlets and bracelets. They made His hands splendid with jewel rings. They placed a necklace of pearls across His chest and decorated His ears with shark- shaped earrings.

Verse 216

muhur ākārito mātrā praviśed bhojanalaye
avalambya karaṃ mātur baladevam anuvrataḥ

muhuḥ—again and again; ākāritaḥ—called; mātrā—by His mother; praviśet—entered; bhojanalaye—the breakfast-room; avalambya—resting; karam—hand; mātuḥ—of His mother; baladevam—Balarāma; anuvrataḥ—followed.

Again and again called by His mother, Lord Kṛṣṇa, holding His mother's hand, finally followed Balarāma into the breakfast-room.

Verse 217

bhuktvā ca vividhānnāni mātrā ca sakhibhir vṛtaḥ
hāsayan vividhair vākyaiḥ sakhīṃs tair hāsitaḥ svayam

bhuktvā—eating; ca—and; vividha—various; annāni—foods; mātrā—by His mother; ca—and; sakhibhiḥ—with friends; vṛtaḥ—surrounded; hāsayan—making laugh; vividhaiḥ—with various; vākyaiḥ—words; sakhīn—friends; taiḥ—with them; hāsitaḥ—made to laugh; svayam—personally.

Accompanied by His mother and His friends, Lord Kṛṣṇa ate a breakfast-feast of many different kinds of foods. He told many jokes, laughing and making His friends laugh.

Verse 218

itthaṃ bhuktvā tathācamya divya-khaṭṭopari kṣaṇāt
viśramet sevakair dattaṃ tāmbūlaṃ vibhajann adan

ittham—thus; bhuktvā—eating; tathā—so; ācamya—rinsing His mouth; divya-khaṭṭopari—on a splendid bed; kṣaṇāt—for a moment; viśramet—rested; sevakaiḥ—by the servants; dattam—given; tāmbūlam—betelnuts; vibhajan—distributing; adan—chewing.

Then the servants brought betelnuts. After sharing them with His friends and chewing some Himself, Lord Kṛṣṇa rested for a moment on a splendid bed.

Verse 219

rādhāpi bhojanānandaṃ dṛṣṭvā yaśodayā hutā
lalitādi-sakhī-vṛtā bhuṅkte 'nnaṃ lajjayānvitā

rādhā—Śrī Rādhā; api—also; bhojana—of eating; ānandam—bliss; dṛṣṭvā—seeing; yaśodayā—by Yaśodā; hutā—called; lalitādi-sakhī-vṛtā—with Lalitā and Her other friends; bhuṅkte—ate; annam—food; lajjayā—shyness; anvitā—with.

Rādhā watched as Lord Kṛṣṇa enjoyed these pastimes of eating breakfast. When Yaśodā called, Rādhā, accompanied by Lalitā and many other gopī friends, shyly ate breakfast.

Verse 220

atha pūrvahṇa-sevā gopa-veśa-dharaḥ kṛśṇo dhenu-vṛnda-puraḥ-saraḥ
vraja-vāsi-janaiḥ prītyā sarvair anugataḥ pathi

atha—now; pūrvahna-sevā—late-morning pastimes; gopa-veśa- dharaḥ—dressed as a cowherd boy; kṛśṇo—Lord Kṛśṇa; dhenu-vṛnda- puraḥ—before the cows; saraḥ—going; vraja-vāsi-janaiḥ—with the people of Vraja; prītyā—with love; sarvair—with all; anugataḥ—followed; pathi—on the path.

Pastimes in the Late Morning When, dressed as a cowherd boy, Lord Kṛśṇa followed the cows to the pasture, all the people of Vraja affectionately followed Him on the path.

Verse 221

pitaraṃ mātaraṃ natvā netrāntena priyā-gaṇān
yathā-yogyaṃ tathā cānyān sannivartya vanaṃ vrajet

pitaraṃ—father; mātaraṃ—mother; natvā—bowing; netrāntena—with the corner of His eyes; priyā-gaṇān—to the dear gopīs; yathā- yogyaṃ—as appropriate; tathā—so; ca—also; anyān—others; sannivartya—sending back; vanaṃ—to the forest; vrajet—went.

Bowing down before His father and mother, casting sidelong glances at His gopī-beloveds, and dealing appropriately with all the others, Lord Kṛśṇa sent them all back. Then He again proceeded to the forest.

Verse 222

vanaṃ praviśya sakhibhiḥ krīḍitvā ca kśaṇaṃ tataḥ
vaṇcayitvā ca tān sarvān dvi-traiḥ priya-sakhair yutaḥ

vanaṃ—the forest; praviśya—entering; sakhibhiḥ—with His friends; krīḍitvā—playing; ca—and; kśaṇaṃ—a moment; tataḥ—then; vaṇcayitvā—stealing; ca—and; tān—them; sarvān—all; dvi-traiḥ—with two or three; priya-sakhair—dear friends; yutaḥ—endgaged.

Lord Kṛśṇa entered the forest, played for a while with His friends, and then slipped away with two or three especially close friends.

Verse 223

saṅketakaṃ vrajed dharṣāt priyā-sandarśanotsukaḥ
sāpi kṛśṇe vanaṃ yāte dṛśṭvā taṃ gṛham āgatā

saṅketakam—meeting; vrajed—goes; harṣāt—happily; priyā- sandarśanotsukaḥ—eager to see His beloved; sā—She; api—also; kṛśṇe—when Lord Kṛśṇa; vanaṃ—to the forest; yāte—had gone; dṛśṭvā—seeing; taṃ—that; gṛham—home; āgatā—arrived.

Eager to see His beloved, Lord Kṛśṇa happily went to meet Her. When She saw that Lord Kṛśṇa had gone to the forest, Śrī Rādhā returned to Her home.

Verse 224

sūryādi-pūja-vyājena kusumādy-āhṛti-cchalāt
vañcayitvā gurūn yāti priyā-saṅgecchayā vanam

sūrya—of the sun-god; ādi—beginning with; pūja—worship; vyājena—on the pretext; kusumādy-āhṛti-cchalāt—on the pretext of gathering flowers; va 24cayitvā—cheating; gurūn—superiors; yāti—goes; priyā- saṅgecchayā—desiring to meet Her beloved; vanam—to the forest.

Then, on the pretext of gathering flowers and other things for the worship of the sun-god and other purposes, Śrī Rādhā tricks Her superiors and, yearning to meet Her beloved, goes to the forest.

Verse 225

atha madhyāhna-sevā itthaṃ tau bahu-yatnena militvā sva-gaṇair vṛtaḥ
vihārair vividhais tatra vane vikrīḍito mudā

atha—now; madhyāhna-sevā—midday pastimes; itthaṃ—thus; tau—They; bahu-yatnena—with great effort; militvā—meeting; sva- gaṇair—with Their5 associates; vṛtaḥ—accompanied; vihārair—with various; vividhais—pastimes; tatra—there; vane—ijn the foprest; vikrīḍito—enjoy mastimes; mudā—happily.

Pastimes of Midday Finally meeting after a great effort, the divine couple enjoy many happy pastimes in the forest with Their associates.
