Verse 176

sa-gaṇo 'ntardadhe vipra tatraiva me vipaścitaḥ
aham apy atra tiṣṭhāmi tad ārabhya nirantaram

sa-gaṇaḥ—with His associates; antardadhe—disappeared; vipra—O brāhmaṇa; tatra—there; eva—indeed; me—of me; vipaścitaḥ—wise; aham—I; api—also; atra—here; tiṣṭhāmi—stay; tat—that; ārabhya—beginning; nirantaram—always.

O wise brāhmaṇa, then the Lord and His company suddenly disappeared. Since then I have always stayed in this place.

Verse 177

sarvam etan mayā tubhyaṃ sāṅgam eva prakīrtitam
adhunā vada viprendra kiṃ bhūyaḥ śrotum icchasi

sarvam—all; etat—this; mayā—by me; tubhyām—to you; sa—with; aṅgam—the parts; eva—indeed; prakīrtitam—spoken; adhunā—now; vada—please tell; viprendra—O king of brāhmaṇas; kim—what?; bhūyaḥ—more; śrotum—to hear; icchasi—you wish.

O king of brāhmaṇas, now I have told you everything. Please speak. What more do you wish to hear?

Verse 178

śrī-nārada uvāca bhagavan sarvam ākhyātaṃ yat pṛṣṭaṃ mayā guro
adhunā śrotum icchāmi bhāva-mārgam anuttamam

śrī-nārada uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; bhagavan—O master; sarvam—all; ākhyātam—told; yat—what; pṛṣṭam—asked; mayā—by me; guraḥ—O spiritual master; adhunā—now; śrotum—to hear; icchāmi—I wish; bhāva-mārgam—the path of love; anuttamam—supreme.

Śrī Nārada said: O spiritual master, you have answered my question with all completeness. Now I wish to hear about the path of spiritual love, the best of all paths.

Verse 179

śrī-sadāśiva uvāca sādhu pṛṣṭaṃ tvayā vipra sarva-loka-hitaiṣiṇa
rahasyam api vakṣyāmi tan me nigaditaṃ śṛṇu

śrī-sadāśiva uvāca—Lord Sadāśiva said; sādhu—excellent; pṛṣṭam—asked; tvayā—by you; vipra—O brāhmaṇa; sarva-loka—of all people; hita—the welfare; aiṣiṇa—desiring; rahasyam—secret; api—even; vakṣyāmi—I will twll; tat—that; me—by me; nigaditam—spoken; śṛṇu—please hear.

Lord Sadāśiva said: O brāhmaṇa who wishes the welfare of all, I will tell you a great secret. Please hear this from me.

Verse 180

dāsāḥ sakhāyaḥ pitarau preyasyaś ca harir iha
sarve nityā muni-śreṣṭha tat-tulya-guṇa-śālinaḥ

dāsāḥ—servants; sakhāyaḥ—friends; pitarau—parents; preyasyaḥ—beloveds; ca—and; hariḥ—Lord Hari; iha—here; sarve—all; nityāḥ—eternal; muni-śreṣṭha—O best of sages; tat-tulya-guṇa- śālinaḥ—with virtues like His.

O best of sages, Lord Hari, His servants, His friends, His parents, and His gopī beloveds are all eternal. They all have the same transcendental virtues.

Verse 181

yathā prakaṭa-līlāyāḥ purāṇeṣu prakīrtitāḥ
tathā te nitya-līlāyāṃ santi vṛndāvane bhuvi

yathā—as; prakaṭa-līlāyāḥ—of manifest pastimes; puraṇeṣu—in the Puranas; prakīrtitāḥ—described; tathā—so; te—they; nitya- līlāyām—in eternal pastimes; santi—are; vṛndāvane—in Vṛndāvana; bhuvi—on the earth.

Lord Kṛṣṇa's eternal pastimes in the spiritual world of Vṛndāvana are exactly like His manifested pastimes in earthly Vṛndāvana, as described in the Purāṇas.

Verse 182

gamanāgamane nityaṃ tathaiva vana-goṣṭhayoḥ
go-caraṇaṃ vayasyaś ca vināsura-vighātanam

gamana—going; āgamane—and coming; nityam—eternally; tathā—so; eva—indeed; vana-goṣṭhayoḥ—of the forest and the village of Vraja; go-caraṇam—herding the cows; vayasyaḥ—friends; ca—and; vinā—without; asura—of the demons; vighātanam—the killing.

In the spiritual world of Vṛndāvana there is the same coming and going to the forest and village of Vraja, the same herding of the cows, and the same friends. Only the killing of the demons is absent.

Verse 183

parakīyābhimāninyas tathā tasya priyā-janāḥ
pracchannenaiva bhāvena ramayanti nijaṃ priyam

parakīya—the love of another; abhimāninyaḥ—with the conception; tathā—so; tasya—of Him; priyā-janāḥ—the dear gopīs; pracchannena—concealed; eva—indeed; bhāvena—with love; ramayanti—delight; nijam—own; priyam—beloved.

Thinking of Him as their paramour, with hidden love the gopīs please their beloved Kṛṣṇa.

Verses 184 and 185

ātmānaṃ cintayet tatra tāsāṃ madhye manoramām
rūpa-yauvana-sampannāṃ kiśorīṃ pramadākṛtim

nānā-śilpa-kalābhijñāṃ kṛṣṇa-bhogānurūpiṇīm
prārthitām api kṛṣṇena tato bhoga-parāṅmukhīm

ātmānam—self; cintayet—may think; tatra—there; tāsām—of them; madhye—in the midst; manoramām—chamring; rūpa—handsomeness; yauvana—and youth; sampannām—endowed with; kiśorīm—youth; pramadā—of a beautiful girl; ākṛtim—the form; nānā-śilpa- kalābhijñām—e4xpert in various arts; kṛṣṇa- bhogānurūpiṇīm—pleasing to Lord Kṛṣṇa; prārthitām—requested; api—even; kṛṣṇena—by Lord Kṛṣṇa; tataḥ—then; bhoga- parāṅmukhīm—averse to enjoyment.

One should think of oneself as a beautiful young gopī girl expert in various arts, pleasing to Lord Kṛṣṇa, reluctant to directly enjoy with Lord Kṛṣṇa even if He were personally to invite you, . . .

Verse 186

rādhikānucarīṃ nityaṃ tat-sevana-parāyaṇām
kṛṣṇād apy adhikaṃ prema rādhikāyāṃ prakurvatīm

rādhikā—of Śrī Rādhā; anucarīm—a follower; nityam—always; tat-sevana-parāyaṇām—devoted to Her service; kṛṣṇāt—than Lord Kṛṣṇa; api—even; adhikam—more; prema—love; rādhikāyām—for Śrī Rādhā; prakurvatīm—doing.

. . . a follower of Śrī Rādhā, always devoted to Her service, more affectionate to Śrī Rādhā than to Lord Kṛṣṇa Himself, . . .

Verse 187

prītyānudivasaṃ yatnāt tayoḥ saṅgama-kāriṇīm
tat-sevana-sukhāsvāda- bhareṇāti-su-nirvṛtam

prītyā—with love; anudivasam—every day; yatnāt—carefully; tayoḥ—of Themn; saṅgama—meeting; kāriṇīm——doing; tat-sevana—of service to Them; sukhāsvāda-bhareṇa—by the great happiness; ati-su-nirvṛtām—very happy.

. . . every day carefully and affectionately arranging the meeting of Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa, and becoming happy to see Them pleased by your service.

Verse 188

ity ātmānaṃ vicintyaiva tatra sevāṃ samācaret
brāhma-muhūrtam ārabhya yāvat sāntā mahā-niśā

iti—thus; ātmānam—oneself; vicintya—thinking; eva—indeed; tatra—there; sevām—service; samācaret—should perform; brāhma- muhūrtam—at brahma-muihurta; ārabhya—beginning; yāvat—from; sāntā—to the end; mahā-niśā—of the great night.

Thinking of oneself in this way, one should serve Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa from the early morning of brāhma-muhūrta to the end of night.

Verse 189

śrī-nārada uvāca harer dainandinīṃ līlāṃ śrotum icchāmi tattvataḥ
līlām ajānatāṃ sevyo manasā tu kathaṃ hariḥ

śrī-nārada uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; hareḥ—of Lord Hari; dainandinīm—daily; līlām—pastimes; śrotum—to hear; icchāmi—I wish; tattvataḥ—in truth; līlām—pastimes; ajānatām—of they who do not know; sevyaḥ—to be served; manasā—with the mind; tu—indeed; katham—how?; hariḥ—Lord Hari.

Śrī Nārada said: I wish to hear the daily pastimes of Lord Hari. How can they who do not know these pastimes serve Lord Hari in their hearts?

Verse 190

śrī-sadāśiva uvāca nāhaṃ jānāmi tāṃ līlāṃ harer nārada tattvataḥ
vṛndā-devīṃ samāgaccha sā te līlāṃ pravakṣyati

śrī-sadāśiva uvāca—Lord Sadāśiva said; na—not; aham—I; jānāmi—know; tām—these; līlām—pastimes; hareḥ—of Lord Hari; nārada—O Śrī Nārada; tattvataḥ—in truth; vṛndā-devīm—Vṛndā-devī; samāgaccha—go; sā—she; te—to you; līlām—pastimes; pravakṣyati—will tell.

Lord Sadāśiva said: I do not know these pastimes of Lord Hari. Go to Vṛndā-devī. She will tell them to you.

Verse 191

avidūra itaḥ sthānāt keśi-tīrtha-samīpataḥ
sakhī-saṅgha-vṛtā sāste govinda-paricārikā

a—not; vidūre—far away; itaḥ—from this; sthānāt—place; keśi-tīrtha-samīpataḥ—near Keśi-tīrtha; sakhī-saṅgha- vṛtā—surrounded by many gopīs; sā—she; āste—is; govinda- paricārikā—a servant of Lord Govinda.

She stays near Keśi-tīrtha, which is not far from this place. She is surrounded by many gopī friends. She is a maidservant of Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Verse 192

śrī-sanat-kumāra uvāca ity uktas taṃ parikramya guruṃ natvā punaḥ punaḥ
vṛndā-sthānaṃ jagāmādau nārado muni-sattamaḥ

śrī-sanat-kumāra uvāca—Śrī Sanat-kumāra said; iti—thus; uktaḥ—speaking; tam—him; parikramya—circumambulating; gurum—spiritual master; natvā—bowing; punaḥ—again; punaḥ—and again; vṛndā-sthānam—to Vṛndā's place; jagāma—went; ādau—in the beginning; nāradaḥ—Śrī Nārada; muni-sattamaḥ—the great sage.

Śrī Sanat-kumāra said: Hearing these words, the great sage Śrī Nārada circumambulated his spiritual master, bowed before him again and again, and then went to the abode of Śrī Vṛndā-devī.

Verse 193

vṛndāpi nāradaṃ dṛṣṭvā praṇamyāpi punaḥ punaḥ
uvāca taṃ muni-śreṣṭha katham atrāgatis tava

vṛndā—Vṛndā; api—also; nāradam—Śrī Nārada; dṛṣṭvā—seeing; praṇamya—bowing down; api—also; punaḥ—again; punaḥ—and again; uvāca—said; tam—to him; muni-śreṣṭha—O best of sages; katham—why?; atra—here; āgatiḥ—come; tava—you.

Seeing Nārada, Vṛndā bowed before him again and again. "O best of sages, why have you come here?" she said.

Verse 194

śrī-nārada uvāca tvatto veditum icchāmi naittikaṃ caritaṃ hareḥ
tat tadā brūhi me devi yadi yogyo 'smi śobhane

śrī-nārada uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; tvattaḥ—from you; veditum—to learn; icchāmi—I desire; naittikam—daily; caritam—activities; hareḥ—of Lord Hari; tat—that; tadā—then; brūhi—please tell; me—to me; devi—O goddess; yadi—if; yogyaḥ—suitable; asmi—I am; śobhane—O beautiful one.

Śrī Nārada said: I have come to learn from you of Lord Hari's daily activities. O beautiful goddess, if I am qualified to hear of them, please tell them to me.

Verse 195

śrī-vṛndovāca rahasyam api vakṣyāmi kṛṣṇa-bhakto 'si nārada
na prakāśyaṃ tvayā hy etad guhyād guhyatamaṃ mahat

śrī-vṛndā uvāca—Śrī Vṛndā said; rahasyam—secret; api—although; vakṣyāmi—I will tell; kṛṣṇa-bhaktaḥ—a devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa; asi—you are; nārada—O Śrī Nārada; na—not; prakāśyam—to be revealed; tvayā—by you; hi—indeed; etat—this; guhyāt—than secret; guhyatamam—more secret; mahat—great.

Śrī Vṛndā said: O Nārada, you are a great devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Therefore I will tell you this, the greatest of all secrets. Please do not make these words public.

Verse 196

niśānta-sevā madhye vṛndāvane ramye pañcāśat kuñja-mandite
kalpa-vṛkṣa-nikuñje tu divya-ratna-maye gṛhe

niśānta-sevā—service at the end of night; madhye—in the middle; vṛndāvane—Vṛndāvana; ramye—beautiful; pa 24cāśat—fifty; kuñja—groves; mandite—decorated; kalpa-vṛkṣa—of kalpa-vṛkṣa trees; nikuñje—in a grove; tu—indeed; divya—splendid; ratna—jewels; maye—made; gṛhe—in a palace.

Pastimes in the End of Night In the middle of beautiful Vṛndāvana forest, which is decorated with fifty groves, in a grove of kalpa-vṛkṣa trees, in a glittering jewel palace, . . .

Verse 197

nidrito tiṣṭhatas talpe niviḍāliṅgatau mithaḥ
mad-ājñā-kāribhiḥ paścāt pakṣibhir bodhitāv api

nidritaḥ—asleep; tiṣṭhataḥ—staying; talpe—on a bed; niviḍa—tightly; āliṅgatau—embracing; mithaḥ—together; mad-āj 24ā-kāribhiḥ—carrying my orders; paścāt—after; pakṣibhiḥ—by birds; bodhitau—awakened; api—even.

. . . on a graceful bed, the sleeping, tightly embracing divine couple were awakened by birds following my command.

Verse 198

gāḍhāliṅgana-nirbhedaṃ āptau tad-bhaṅga-kātarau
na manas kurutas talpāt samutthātuṃ manāg api

gāḍha—tight; āliṅgana—embrace; nirbhedam—breaking; āptau—attained; tad-bhaṅga—by Their separation; kātarau—distressed; na—not; manaḥ—mind; kurutaḥ—did; talpāt—from the bed; samutthātum—to rise; manāk—slightly; api—even.

Their firm embrace broken, the divine couple became unhappy at the thought of Their impending separation. They had no wish to rise even slightly from Their bed.

Verse 199

tataś ca śārikā-saṅghaiḥ śukādyair api tau mudā
bodhitau vividhair vākyaiḥ sva-talpād udatiṣṭhatām

tataḥ—then; ca—and; śārikā-saṅghaiḥ—by a host of female parrots; śukādyaiḥ—by a host of male parrots and other birds; api—even; tau—Them; mudā—happily; bodhitau—awakened; vividhaiḥ—with many; vākyaiḥ—words; sva- talpāt—from Their bed; udatiṣṭhatām—rose.

Awakened by the cheerful words of many parrots and other birds, Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa rose from Their bed.

Verse 200

upaviṣṭau tato dṛṣṭvā sakhyas talpe mudānvitau
praviśya cakrire sevāṃ tat-kālasyocitaṃ tayoḥ

upaviṣṭau—risen; tataḥ—then; dṛṣṭvā—seeing; sakhyaḥ—the friends; talpe—on the bed; mudānvitau—happy; praviśya—entering; cakrire—did; sevām—service; tat-kālasyocitam—approrpiate to that time; tayoḥ—of Them.

Seeing that the divine couple had happily risen from bed, the gopīs entered and served Them in ways appropriate to that time.
